TENA and all members of the Superbike team are pleased to welcome the male cancer charity Orchid into the TENA for Men Honda fold. Orchid focuses on raising both awareness and funds to support research into prostate, penile and testicular cancers. To further increase awareness of this important charity all team merchandise features the Orchid ribbon. TENA have provided a donation to Orchid in support of their charity.

Colin Osborne, who founded the charity after he recovered from testicular cancer himself, explained that Orchid’s objective is two-fold:

“We approach the issue from two directions. We obviously want to raise money for pioneering research, but we also need to encourage men to be more self-aware so that diagnosis is made earlier.”

Consequently, Orchid recognised that the manly world of British Superbikes was a great platform to promote their 'Checked Out' campaign.

“We want men to recognise the tell-tale signs of the uniquely male cancers because the sooner they can get to their GP and get diagnosed the easier it is to treat the cancer,” said Colin. “I was lucky because I got pioneering treatment just in time, but I don't want other men to have to rely on their luck”

At every race the TENA girls will be out promoting the 'Checked Out' campaign – they'll be roaming the pit lane, garages and hospitality areas encouraging men to 'check out male cancer and check themselves out' on behalf of the charity. And if you make a donation to Orchid they'll give out a specially designed charity metal pin badge.

Speaking for the team, rider Tris Palmer said, “We are right behind Orchid, and we’ll be proud to wear their logo on our bike, leathers, and merchandise – everywhere in fact. We recognise what they are trying to do and if we can encourage blokes to be more self aware about their own health then that is a very good thing.”

Orchid has a number of sporting connections: the Patron of the charity is former world snooker champion Steve Davis OBE, and the vice-presidents include Sir Geoff Hurst, David Gower, Colin Montgomerie, Pat Cash, Jason Leonard, Ben Cohen, Martin Peters MBE, Roger Hunt MBE and John Conteh.
